During the winter of 2003 Les Madeleines opened shop on State Street to the pastry lovers of Salt Lake City; capturing the attention of food lovers from all over Utah and many other far-flung destinations ever since.
Although not an exclusive cupcakery, Les Madeleines was the first to offer a variety of unique, gourmet cupcake flavors and French macarons in the Utah area. But what truly captured the hearts of Utah foodies was the Kouign Amann, a rich, buttery caramelized piece of heaven originating from Brittany, France. If you’ve had a Les Madeleines Kouign Amann you too are a part of history, establishing Les Madeleines as the first bakery west of the Mississippi to offer the Breton pastry.
The summer of 2007, Les Madeleines packed up and moved down the street to the current location. New digs allowed for expanded breakfast and lunch menus as well as a new case dedicated entirely to cupcakes. With more room in the case Chef Romina added French macarons (we call them “Buttons”) inspired by the same flavor profiles as the cupcakes. Macarons became so popular that we no longer make cupcakes. Don’t despair, you can drown those sorrows in freshly made gelato.
December 2017 marks our 14-year anniversary. We would like to thank everyone who has supported us over the years, making it possible to reach this milestone.
